We went to Bread and Breakfast because we'd heard many good things. When we walked in, it took a bit for someone to greet us and the tables were all dirty. There were plenty of staff around and talking but no one bussing until asked. We were finally seated and waited another 10 minutes for menus and a drink order. Ordering happened about 10 minutes after that and in the meantime we noticed lots of potential patrons walk in and leave because again, no one greeted them. The one staff member who was doing most of the work was struggling and the younger staff did little to support her. They did have friends stop in and time to drink iced coffee while customers walked away. When our food arrived , it came out at different times and I didn't get my drink until my meal was essentially over. The food itself was not great....my pancakes were mealy and bacon was burned. My husband was very disappointed in his biscuits & gravy which he said were bland and ended up not feeling well after. Overall we were disappointed and feel some pretty serious issues with staff and food quality absolutely must be addressed. It's nice that food was locally sourced but the preparation did not do justice to the ingredients.

I had been once before and the food was excellent. I decided to take my husband this time. We were there an hour and a half. We had to ask for drinks, a menu, and our check twice. The food was mediocre at best. Eggs were not cooked well, french toast was completely soggy, and the hash browns were not browned at all. We will not be back.

This quaint bread bakery and cafe is a locavore's dream come true. Everything about this bakery, from the decor to the food, is warm, intimate, and local. The dining room has four mismatched tables and a couch. Ordinarily this would seem strange but at Bread & Breakfast the environment felt akin to sitting in a friend's living room or a comfortable coffee shop. However, I hope that the intimate setting and limited seating can handle the growing popularity that I see in this bakery's future. The owner also posts a list of locally sourced ingredients on the wall and it is extensive. Additionally, a member of her staff seemed to take pride in telling us that they use locally sourced maple syrup. Of course they also bake all of the bread in house. With all of the local ingredients and in house preparation it took no effort to fall in love with the French Toast and hashbrowns. If you are a locavore or even just love good bread I recommend checking out Bread & Breakfast.

From her roadside stand to the farmer's market to her bricks and mortar store, Laura has evolved into one of the best bread bakers in the area. They have amazing breads and baked goods and use lots of local ingredients. Everything I've had here has been phenomenal!

Not only will it feel good giving your business to a local eatery, the food is fantastic. The service was great as well. Hopefully I can make it here sooner than later.
(5)Sean P.
The food that I have had here has been awesome and the workers are polite as all get out. I believe they are still trying to work out some of the kinks, but I believe this place will surprise you as it did me!

Best place for lunch in New Albany? Bread and Breakfast. It's tiny and quaint. The style is very eclectic and friendly. The food is amazing. First off, try the soup. It's a different homemade soup each day and each one is better than the next. There are a bunch of different sandwiches and they'll customize them for you. The bread. Wow. The bread is all homemade. Sides like coleslaw are fresh and homemade. They make cinnamon rolls that are so large they have their own zip code. The service is quick and friendly and the food is as good as it gets. Oh wait, I didn't mention the omelettes. They are excellent. Every ingredient is local----or they make the best effort to do so. It's tiny so go early or later, but whatever you do, go there.

I don't like giving a bad review to a local business but maybe it will be useful in making it a better place. I will say everyone was very friendly. When we ordered, there were several things we asked for that they said they didn't have, including Mac n cheese for the kids, a little disappointment for them. When they did get their food, the portions were very small and the count of the items, like 3 pancakes, did not match what was listed on the menu as 4. The food wasn't awful, but it wasn't any better than what I can cook at home. :( Plus, for around $7 per plate I would expect a little more than paper plates and plastic cups. It felt like I had been invited to someone's house for dinner and then was asked to pay when I left. The dining area was tight and there was no music, so when you're already sitting close to another table you can hear the whole conversation, or in our case, a movie that a small child was playing on an iPhone. We heard about this place at the buy local fair but we were so disappointed with our experience.

I'm really surprised to read the few poor reviews of this charming little place. Chris was our waitress and she kicked it (in her cute boots) with great service, knowledge of the menu and the area and her friendly personality. I had the breakfast sandwich, deconstructed so I could eat it on a plate without the potential of oozing onto my clothes. It was scrumptious! The tomato jam is something I'd never heard of, much less tried. It was really good. I had a side of gravy because the patron who overheard my friend and I talking recommended it so highly. Excellent! My 'sandwich' (BET, I think was the name) was delicious and came with a fresh fruit cup. Portions were large and I took some home to the hubs. The eggs were as good as I'd make at home and better than the ones I had at a very popular Louisville restaurant yesterday. Likewise for the bacon - thick and flavorful and cooked just right. My friend had the skillet which was a melange of all breakfast lusciousness. Over easy egg, potatoes, sausage...I don't know what else, but she loved it, and she is a bit of a foodie. She also bought a loaf of the fresh baked bread to take home to her husband. They source many foods locally, which was a plus. I highly recommend this place, and look forward to going back.

I feel like Bread & Breakfast was having a three-star day, but has the potential to be five stars. The space is quaint, but tiny as many have stated. We walked in and ended up in the servers' prep area not knowing how seating worked. A sign on the door stating 'Seat Yourself' would be helpful. The staff was friendly, though they all seemed a tad frazzled. We grabbed the only available two top which was in a narrow hallway close to the kitchen. It was very noisy with kitchen staff and servers yelling to one another. It also got a bit close with people trying to carry plates past us to and from other tables. When a table closer to the front came open, we immediately moved. Despite there only being seven tables and having three servers working the floor, there still seemed to be issues with coverage. I heard several tables nearby complain about incorrect orders or not having drinks yet. Many of us waited for our checks to come after finishing our meals. On to the food - I ordered the veggie breakfast skillet with a side of vegetarian gravy and my mom got the French toast with bacon. From the description on the menu, I expected the same dish as the one made with meat but subbing veggies. When it arrived, the eggs and biscuits described on the menu were missing, but it still had cheese (so it wasn't a vegan thing).A server, not mine, explained this was the veggie version and kindly brought me a scrambled egg. I heard a few minutes later, from another server, that they were out of biscuits, maybe this was why it wasn't included. The dish overall was very filling and the gravy was amazing! Mom's thick cut, French toast was created with homemade, cinnamon swirl bread. Unfortunately, it should have been grilled longer to correctly set the custard and crisp the hunks o' bread. The bacon was a local product, but ended up being very salty and not cooked long enough to be crisp. The portion was huge, but she left almost half uneaten (see above). Such potential, but ultimately a disappointment. These are nice people providing locally sourced and homemade products, so I hope they can straighten out their staffing and menu issues in the new location this fall. We'll try them again then making sure to ask more questions about menu descriptions, maybe skipping the breakfast meat altogether, and actively inquiring what they might be out off right off the bat. Fingers crossed!

Yelp led me to this location and I have mixed feelings about it. Good: Super adorable; you feel like you are eating in someones living room. As you sip from mason Jars and pre-pubescent teens serve you, there is an overwhelming charm. The have a sign on the wall documenting the local farmers they work with top acquire various items. Thus you even feel as though you eating decently-ish. The shoulder shrug: After the charm of feeling as though you are supporting some family business fades, you realize the young workers are a bit out of sorts. Be prepared for long wait times and for your order to come in various incomplete stages. The Unforgivable: The food is mediocre to average at best. There aren't too many ways to go wrong with breakfast, but there was NOTHING special here. The locally sourced gimmick makes you think ; delicious and fresh. While my fruit cup was fine the syrup, meat, etc were super average. Maybe when buying local they didn't pay for the deluxe model, but the prices make you anticipate some slice of delicious americana. Overall I would have been just as happy in my own kitchen or holding out for a better lunch.

I had the French toast and it was, very literally, the best French toast I've ever had. Also, their breads are delicious. They use a lot of local suppliers and it shows in the best way. I'll be back as often as possible. Everyone that worked there was so nice. Thank you all!

When you walk in, don't search for more tables. There are only 7 in the dining area. There is outdoor seating, though. Kimberle had the Turkey & bacon panini. The Turkey had a delicious flavor. The panini wasn't crisp, as I thought it should be, other than that it was a delicious sandwich from the piece I had. I ordered the Sweet potato veggie burger. If you like sweet potatoes, get this. It was yummy. They served veggie chips with our sandwiches. The Cole slaw and coffee were good too. They are moving to a larger place. I hope this cafe & bakery make it in NA. Try it; you may be surprised.

First thing I noticed as I walked into the building, it sits on a corner and there's no signage telling you this is it. The dining room is small less than 20 seats, there's no bell on the door and I had to go looking for staff to figure out where to sit. The service was nice but slow, the food was fresh but terribly bland. The sweet roll was the highlight of the morning. I might try it again, although there's no way my omelette was 4 eggs!!!! OMGoodness where do I start.... French toast, breakfast tour, breakfast skillets, build your own omelette & homemade breads would be a good start!!! EVERYTHING is amazing! SO, go by and tell Tammy we sent you. You will be adding them to your eating spots for sure!

Read a very positive article in the Leo about Bread and Breakfast. Seems the restaurant is worthy of a trip across the River. I definitely agree.

I had a very nice lunch here, Turkey Bacon panini and Quinoa & Black Bean chili. The chili was well spiced & thick. They let me try a little of the other soup to help me make up my mind. I am not sure how a place that seats less than 25 can make it, but I am glad that these guys are having a good go at it. Nice staff & good music in the background. They have bread and some baked goods for sale separately, too. You do not see this when you walk in the door, but have to walk into the next room.

I don't normally leave bad reviews, so we'll consider this a warning. My living room is twice the size of the dining area. People were sitting there whispering like it was the library. I'm sure there are a bunch of unemployed housewives who would enjoy getting away from the kids, and the "charm" the tiny old place has, but I was very uncomfortable. If you're actually hungry order two of whatever you're getting. I found the food generic, and way over priced. The potatoes were undercooked, the eggs were cooked in a dirty fryer and had that black soot all over them. I left there still hungry, $13.00 light (the cost of a coffee, and a skillet, including 25% tip), and relieved to be outside in the snow. Waffle house again tomorrow. Sorry, you don't get five stars just cuz you're local and indy.

Heard about this place from family and dropped in twice on my last visit. First time to pick up some cinnamon rolls which were very good and not overly sugary and sweet. Second time was for a sit down breakfast. The biscuits and gravy were very good. In fact I rate them in my top 3 restaurant biscuits and gravy alongside two places featured on Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives. My only complaint was service was slow and seemed confused at times. May just have been new folks helping out, technical difficulties, or something else, so I'll try and look past it with expectations for improvement next time. No complaints about the food, it's very good, and the owner is very friendly and has a neat story. Just a little fine tuning on service (maybe it was just that day) and it'll be a great little place!

I first stopped in here during the Jingle Walk in downtown New Albany. They let us sample their Pumpkin Cinnamon Rolls with Bourbon Icing. It melts in your mouth - I'm not sure I've ever had something quite so decadent yet comforting. I was also excited to find out they serve gluten free products on certain days of the week. The inside needs the love of an interior designer, as it has an awkward, stuffy layout. It can make it difficult to enjoy your locally-sourced, made-with-love muffin when you feel as though the entire bakery is listening in on your conversation. They do have musicians on Saturday mornings though, usually something fantastically folky, and who can deny Simon & Garkfunkel with jalapeño cream cheese panini on a lazy afternoon?
(4)rachel d.
Just stopped in for breakfast after reading the reviews. The space is small and limited seating, but the staff was very accommodating for our group of two and child in a high chair. Between my husband and I, we ordered the breakfast panini, pancakes and biscuits and gravy. Each dish was delicious. We left full and happy about our decision to try out this place. We'll return soon!

Great find thanks to a friend's recommendation. There are only a few minor things that would make this a five star rating. First, the dining area is small with the front door opening directly into the dining space. This makes area cold in winter. Unfortunate the building is small and no other option exists. Second, lunch side consisted of very small portion of "Chips". Would suggest other options. Third, without reading other Yelp reviews I'd never known breads were available for sale and located in separate section of restaurant. Something needs to be done to advertise and promote these scrumptious products. Fourthly, came on a Monday and it was closed with no hours noticeably posted outside or on the door. Finally, the price is a little high for the amount of food. Panini sandwich is around $8-$9. This said, the food, bread, and service was amazing. I make these suggestions because I'd love to see this business grow, but maintain its intimate character. A terrific addition to New Albany. Hoping the community supports this young entrepreneur. We will be back and you should go. Hint: Rolls and other items can be ordered - have to ask.

A wonderful find. We were driving through and found this place on Main Street. The skillet breakfast was amazing and my husband had a huge portion of boubon french toast. All food is organic and locally sourced... I asked for jelly and got homemade cherry. Prices are modest and service was swift.

Incredible food with local ingredients! I had the breakfast tour with eggs, home fries, sausage, biscuit & gravy, and French toast and it was clear that every item had great attention put into its recipe. No fillers; it was all delicious. Sampled some fresh baked sweet swirl bread and couldn't possibly leave without a loaf. Loved my experience at Bread and Breakfast!

A great restaurant, great atmosphere, Laura Buckingham also sells great baked goods, stop by, you will enjoy yourself.
(5)Heather A.
The best homemade bread, yes, but so much more!! Farm fresh, local products made into a creative, delicious full service menu. From giant, scrumptious sticky buns to fresh panini's, soups, and a variety of seasonal menu items.... Laura cooks up the best Southern Indiana has to offer.

My husband and I loved our first Bread and Breakfast experience. He ordered the breakfast tour and I ordered the hot cakes with sausage. Both meals were amazing. The hot cakes were sweet and moist and tasted deliciously homemade. My sausage was huge and simply seasoned so you could taste the fresh pork. Yes seating is limited, and when we were there a single waiter was taking care of everyone so service was kind of slow, but we were so full and happy when we left so I can't wait to go back. The only downside was the kind of weird ambient music they play.

The food that I have had here has been awesome and the workers are polite as all get out. I believe they are still trying to work out some of the kinks, but I believe this place will surprise you as it did me!

Food was awesome. Had the carrot tyme soup and loved it. Portabella panini was really good too. Also had pumpkin muffin and chocolate cookies which were vegan and yummy.
